What does The Farmacy Cafe have to say...

How do you mindfully choose healthy food options during this time?

  • One of the best ways to support your body during this time is to choose immune-boosting, nourishing foods. Plan your grocery shopping trip or meal delivery to make sure that you're stocking up on healthy options with minimal ingredients, as well as items that you'll be able to use in many different ways (a head of cauliflower can be roasted, made into rice, frozen and added to smoothies, etc.). Choose 1-2 seasonal items (like fresh basil or spring peas) to incorporate into your meals to make them feel new and fresh.

How do you mindfully choose healthy food options during this time?

  • My fiancé and I eat a plant based diet and have been eating that way for about 7 1/2 years. That doesn’t mean we don’t eat sweets. The saying is true, “you are what you eat”. And we feel that by fueling your body with plant foods, you’re gaining more nutrients, vitamins and energy!

What is your favorite “go to” to get movement in everyday?

  •  We take our dog for a walk twice a day and we try to get a workout in everyday. By working out together, it makes it a lot easier to get motivated!

What have you done daily that brings you meaningful connection?

  • We are planning our May 30 wedding! It has been happy, stressful, frustrating all at once because of the pandemic. But at the same time, it has brought us so much closer as a couple!

What healthy changes have you made during these weeks at home?

  • When we first started this thing, I was finding myself baking a lot! I’ve cut back, thank God! Just trying to stay positive I think has been a big obstacle during these hard times. But I think it’s very important for your mind and spirit to stay positive!

MELROSE FAMILY YMCA

What does the Melrose YMCA have to say...

How do you mindfully choose healthy food options during this time?

  • Routine! Sticking to a routine and meal plan can be so beneficial for long term success. Take an assessment of your activity level vs. your hunger level to determine what you eat throughout the day.

What is your favorite “go to” to get movement in everyday?

  • The YMCA is staying active with our extensive list of virtual group exercise classes that are available free to the community. Our “Studio Y” YouTube channel has a wide variety of video playlists, including strength training, circuit training, yoga and meditation, and active older adults! These videos can be streamed anywhere – from your living room to your driveway!
  • We have also noticed that many seniors do not have internet access or electronics to view our YouTube videos to keep them active during this time. We have partnered with the Melrose Public Access to bring these videos to the public TV so that they can continue to stay active with familiar instructors in the comfort of their homes!

What have you done daily that brings you meaningful connection?

  • Our YMCA has not stopped moving forward. We are actively supplying food for families in need, collecting and distributing diapers throughout the Melrose community and making phone calls to our families and seniors to check in, say hello, and see if there is anything we can do to help them during this time. Our childcare centers are supplying emergency childcare for first responders. Our families are also coloring pictures and writing letters to seniors to keep their spirits up!

sidmore chiropractic

What does Sidmore Chiropractic have to say...

  • To answer how do I Mindfully choose healthy food options during this time of Pandemic crisis?   As an essential service, we have not stopped seeing patients at all during this time and the adjustments we have had to make (pun intended) have been vast and extensive as far as safety protocols and procedures meaning it takes at least 2-3 times the energy and time to see one patient. We noticed this early on so to prepare for the long haul my first step in eating right was having the correct positive mental attitude of gratitude. Knowing that it is a privilege to continue supporting the Chiropractic and healthcare needs of all of my patients which have included and continue to include Nurses, Doctors, EMTs, Firefighters, Police, Postal workers, Delivery drivers, Grocery clerks and pretty much any and all individuals that have also been given the privilege of being an essential worker, my staff and I knew and know that to win a race, you cannot have bad fuel. It is much easier to make good choices in food when you know that good health, via good nutrition is a vital part of the privilege of serving so many under so much stress. If I am not strong and healthy, I cannot be strong and healthy for my patients. We have been seeing so many musculoskeletal problems stemming from the collateral damage of people being part of either the home quarantine or the front line workers, from both a physical and emotional standpoint, that we have actually named a few new diagnoses.
  • My Favorite go to Movement  as a Chiropractor has always been weight training. I  have always found that when I am my strongest I am best able to serve all shapes and sizes of individuals from Pro Athletes that are 6' 8" 330 LBS down to children and infants. Having a strong muscular frame and core allows me to  have the ultimate in body control and power to make spinal adjustments to any one of any size. So during this Pandemic because my Fitness Center could not be open,  and because early on in this Pandemic , toilet paper was not the only thing you could not get ahold of, (There were not any weights to be purchased any where either in a store or online)  I pulled all of my old weights, bars and benches, cobwebs and all out of the basement, cleaned them off and set up my own Gym on the second floor of my office, put up a few new inspirational fitness posters, hooked up my bluetooth speaker to my iTunes and I was on my way. I have done the best I can with what I have and am very glad that I did.
  • For Meaningful connection I have to say that my Spiritual connection to God has grown tremendously. I have to give credit where credit is due and for me it is a stronger connection with Jesus. I have never been a "Bible thumper" but have always had what I thought was a good connection to God, however in these past 8 weeks of Public Fear, Crisis and Stress, God has come in to my life in the most powerful way------ at the most critical time. The strength that I have found to do everything that I have had to due to keep my patients healthy and to keep my business afloat comes not from me but from God. I found myself listening regularly to Joel Osteen on Sirius XM and to the Catholic station EWTN as well. These have fed me and sustained me in a way I cannot describe as anything but supernatural. In all of my 28 years in the health care field, I have to say that the amount of work that I and my staff have done in the last 9 weeks is phenomenal and guided by my higher power.
  • In regard to Mastery. I would have to say that myself as well as my office staff have had to completely take control of the public safety measures for our patients within our office. Early on, weeks before our State Board ordered it and even before Governor Baker announced Chiropractors as and Essential service,  I came up with what amounted to about 30 changes in procedures that I thought we would need to keep the public safe. I am very proud of my staff and myself for all of the disciplined measures we put in to place and enforced with our patients. We have truly Mastered the ability to keep the public safe while teaching them how to keep themselves safe. I have to give credit to my patients as well. They not only followed suit in Mastery of these procedures but have continued to supply all of the Sanitization supplies such as Disinfectants, Wipes, Hand Sanitizers, Gloves,  and PPE so that we could continue to be remain open safely and apply the Mastery of these new Procedures and Protocols that we put in to place.

Sidmore Chiropractic is a small but mighty chiropractic office in Wakefield that for 24 years has been gratefully serving the public.

I would like to offer to anyone reading this, any one whom is experiencing musculoskeletal symptoms  such as neck or back pain, headaches, sciatica, shoulder and arm pain and especially to all of my brothers and sisters in healthcare and all of the essential services that have been part of the front line, a full free Comprehensive Orthopedic/Neurological Chiropractic exam. This would normally be a $150 exam. Normally if we were having an onsite "Healthy Melrose" I would have been able to screen people for problems but alas that is not the case this particular year. So anyone whom would like a free phone consult  with me Dr. Eric Sidmore to find out if you could benefit from Chiropractic and take advantage of the Free Comprehensive Exam, please call my office at 781-224-1920. Ann our office manager will put you through directly to me. We would love to meet you and help you with no initial cost at all.
